10:35 am - CNPS Yes, that stupid addictive game. (I'm out of the game) It took me a week to see a 13, which I finally got yesterday. Now I'm looking for a 14, and today I have seen two 13s and a 15. The god of Chaos hates me.

05:53 pm - Thursday On Thursday, I went to London and came back with a job. It's 37.5 hours a week, £6 an hour, work from home research (phone calls, internet). It starts Monday and finishes on the 9th of September, three days before I start my job with the comp-sci dept. Hurrah!
CNPS score: 12

02:39 pm - Poem Here's a little poem I just thought up:
I push her red lips against mine, Her sweet tang envelops me. Nothing can surpass, Eating a strawberry.
Hope you like it. I've been eating strawberries. I have a horrible headache which nothing will shift, but strawberries seem to be working! Maybe it's the sugar. Eating strawberries is a lot like kissing, and the bit you are eating is most definitely female. It's funny when you think about the original function of what you're eating.

11:32 am - Stupidity So I'm sat in front of my computer, and I finally decide to plug my speakers back in since we moved them to watch star wars. I plug the transformer into the mains, and into the base unit. I plug the left speaker into the left hole, the right speaker into the right hole, and the "remote" (wired) into the remote hole. I turn it on, it makes that deadened sound that speakers do when you give them power. I try to play some music, to no avail. Why is it not working? The light is on, the volume is up... What have I forgotten? Take a guess. I have forgotten to connect my speakers to my computer.

08:34 pm - It starts... Some of you may have heard of CNPS, or Consecutive Number Plate Spotting. If not, look here for the rules. I knew I would be doomed as soon as I saw a "1", and today it has happened. Now I will spend my life with my eyes at numberplate level, hoping for the next one I need. Here's a picture of me with my first:

And my second:

I have since seen 3 and 4 but the vehicles were in motion so I decided not to try to get a picture with them!
Current score:4 -- I'll be keeping a tally every time I post from now on, so that I have a record of where I have got to. I am also registered on this website, which will have the most up to date record of my score. If you see a car parked in a residential area with a number I'll soon be needing, let me know! 02:07 pm - Who's stupid? I'm stupid! So, I bring my essay to campus in PDF format. I print it and hand it in. It turns out the lecturer wants it emailed also, and at this point he says he wants it in .zip format. I move a .zip of the file to my M:\ drive, and go and have lunch.
When I come back, I have a new email, saying he now wants the PDF as it is after all. First, I look on my M:\ drive. Only a .zip there. I logout and in again this time with my USB drive attached. Somehow the original PDF has gone missing. I panic and go to the computer from which I printed it on the offchance it's still there.
Then I think of extracting it from the .zip that I had all along, which would have been pretty useless if that were not possible. DUH!
I think I'm not with it today. In other news Lynda Rollason may have a summer placement for me! She is going to the company (whoever they are) and wanted my CV (which I still couldn't seem to send as a .doc, kept bouncing and complaining about malformed MIME types or something.) I sent her a .zip. It's being a zippy/unzippy day, really. Current Mood: amused Current Music: "Peter won't you hear my mournful strum" in my head

10:54 am - That'll do... Dear "MELTON, Claire Elizabeth",
This is an automated email to give you your first assignment result for CS23710. Please PRINT this message for your records as you will get no other notification of your grade.
Your grade was: A+
Best regards,
Dave Price.
What can I say, I followed the instructions. Pity it's only 5% of my module.
Dear Melton, Claire,
This is an automated email to give you your second assignment result for CS23710. Please PRINT this message for your records as you will get no other notification of your grade.
Your grade was: A
Comments (if any) that you may find useful: "Excellent work. To improve the code you could have had functions to calculate st, lbs, oz rather than having lots of repeating code in the ask() and makeoutput() functions. "
This assignment was marked by Jo Walker to a marking scheme specified by Dave Price.
Best regards,
Dave Price.
Oh well, I did think about that but never got round to it. The same piece of code is in a function all of its own in assignment 3, so that's at least one mark I'll get!
So the two together total 20%, I've handed in a further 30%, just the 50% project to go. Something about a line-editor. It is a little unfair that we had 5 1/2 weeks to do the 30% part, but have 3 weeks to do the 50% part. Oh well.
Hmm, gonna do a bit of useful stuff today, since I have the day off. Send forms, pay debtors, that sort of thing. Phone rang this morning when I was in bed, but I didn't get there in time and they didn't leave a message. If it was you, call again!
See you all around... Current Mood: awake

05:39 pm - Guitar tuning ARGH. I need help tuning my guitar. It's a Floyd Rose tremolo, and the fine tuning pegs at the bottom don't have the range to put it in tune anymore(Half a tone too low on the top e fully screwed in). I therefore need to either re-string it or retune using the pegs at the top, but I really don't know how to do either. I don't want to mess it up and then have to take it back to the shop, for I will feel silly. So, is there anyone out there who knows what to do and will help me? Links to websites aren't enough, I'd rather have someone actually here to do it. I've read some of the guides and they look scary, I think I need to see for myself how it's done, just once.
There's no rush, as I can keep it in tune with itself, it's just half a step down from everything else.
Thanks in advance,
Claire

01:46 pm - Stupid Grobbit! The phrase I have heard most today is "Stupid Grobbit!" Our particular Grobbit has achieved some interesting things that it isn't meant to do.
Overview of game: A grobbit has to survive by eating wiffle flowers, hiding in trees or holes, and not getting eaten by predators.
Our grobbit:
- Refuses to die
- Eats trees instead of hiding in them
- When it hides in a tree, then moves away, it takes the tree with it (quite cunning I thought)
- Instead of sleeping, it runs further than it should be able to in a random direction off the screen
- Refuses to be eaten when a predator tries to eat it
- Makes itself invisible randomly
- Eats wiffle flowers, then miraculously leaves them where they are as it leaves (efficient digestion?)
- Leaves a copy of itself where it used to be every time it moves
Most of these "quirks" have been rectified, but it still doesn't really die and refuses to behave itself. Ah well, hand-in is tomorrow, we have time!
Edit: It dies, but goes invisible instead of showing a gravestone (you can still move around too) It hides in trees, and leaves them behind when it moves away It still can't sleep It can be eaten, but still moves around as a gravestone if you try It remains opaque, except on death It eats wiffle flowers and gets health from them It only leaves one copy of itself where it used to be, which now disappears on the next move.
All an improvement, I think it will be all right tomorrow.

09:42 am - Oxford I'm going to Oxford to meet a friend from Norfolk who I haven't seen in years, this weekend. I'm leaving this afternoon, so if you wonder where I am, there you go. So don't pester Dan about my whereabouts. I'll be back either late Sunday or sometime Monday. Have a good Troma Night and Geek Night, I'll see you all soon. Gotta go do washing, go to a silly meeting about group project, and then get on a train that doesn't exist according to TheTrainLine. Byeeee! Current Mood: busy
